ALPHA FEMALE

Opening Reception

Friday, August 21, 2016
6P - 9PM

On View Through
September 13, 2015

LIFESTYLES OF THE ALPHA FEMALE

The Alpha Female is the dominant female in a group. She is strong and confident. She dates as many men as she wants, or none at all. A hard worker who is often busy, with little time to devote to those who are not genuine. This woman is usually sarcastic because she's powerful and playful. An intelligent, intellectual problem solver, she understands that being an alpha female is more a state of mind than physicality. At the same time, she uses her feminine and physical charms to her advantage. Often feared or terribly misunderstood by others – she prefers passion to romance, and integrity over bullshit.

This collection of paintings by Reisha and Martha A. Wade represents an ongoing quest to understand alpha women, and also themselves. This visual representation is dedicated to the lifestyles and characteristics of those strong women. The work showcases how these powerful women envision the concepts of confidence, sarcasm, power, play, and intelligence. Both Reisha and Martha have an artistic intuition that lends to the qualities of an Alpha Female. As women who write their own rules to life, they sometimes find themselves misunderstood or underestimated. It is important that their artwork celebrate the possibility of passion with freedom, coupled with unfettered creativity and expression.

The Collaboration of Sexy

Collaborative Works
by Martha A. Wade and Reisha

Opening Reception
Friday, May 22, 2015

Closing Reception
Friday - July 17, 2015
6:00pm - 10:00pm

Featuring 5x8 feet collaborative paintings on canvas by two dynamic artists, and self-proclaimed "sexy" women. In this new body of work, Reisha and Martha push "sexy" beyond traditional stereotypes to encompass a new meaning - powerful, passionate, emotional, and intelligent.  The work is a vivid journey through power and beauty that represents a visual dictation of their collaborative sense of the world today - and the potential for tomorrow.

An irreverent spin on sexuality, exploitation, and the right to be more than what meets the eye. The works stems from the artists' desire to contrast societal beauty standards and sexuality with a familiar character viewed by many as comical and even intimidating.  The junction of personalities, proficiencies, styles, and experiences contributes to a diverse body of work that addresses a multitude of motifs. The artistic medley occurred in movement of color and styles, generating a hybrid of expression. Conjointly, Martha and Reisha depict the continual conversation of sexuality by blending two voices into several images.

Wisdom and Knowledge
Eugene "Eda" Wade

Solo Art Exhibition

Eugene "Eda" Wade is one of those phenomenal artists who adapts and updates his style to embrace new digital art forms that speak to history as well as Afro-Futurism.  His recent work centered around the African origins of religion, and seeks to educate on topics of heritage, culture, the global economy, social programing, mass communication, and the distribution of wealth.

A respected professional artist and educator in the community for over 60 years, Wade has created a body work that evolved from mural paintings of historical black figures, to digital collage printed on canvas of our true history.

In his latest Wisdom & Knowledge series, Wade brings to life bold cultural works of digital collage to present vital information of how minds are colonized by those in power, in order to have control over the masses of people.

VERTICAL ABSTRACTS

“Vertical Abstracts” features five abstract artists with very unique styles, materials, methods, and points of view.  Each artist is on his or her own path up-word, in vertical movement.

Featured Artists
Sopha Kommavang
Pearlie Taylor
Greta Vick
Reisha
Austin Layhew

Austin Layhew would find it next to impossible to try to give up the act of making art. It is his voice with which ideas will speak to others, and especially to himself.

Sopha Kommavang and Pearlie Taylor are both masters of color, but their unique perspectives and expressive paint application techniques result in two very different but equally excellent outcomes.

Greta Vick brings a fresh perspective on abstraction with vibrant neon colors and a keen eye for aesthetics.

Reisha, co-owner of Galleryna19, comes from a photography background which has provided her with an excellent eye for the images she uses in her collage based pieces.

Made of Stardust
An Exploration of Self and Human Potential
Martha A. Wade solo art exhibition
September 19 - October 15, 2014

In her new body of work, Martha A. Wade creates a fantasy of humans made from stardust, who uplift our spirits by giving us a glimpse of what people can achieve at their highest potential.  Her tapestry of famous and everyday people suggest that common grounds exist, where everyone is empowered to fulfill their dreams.

"We are all connected, to each other and to the universe.  If you look closely into our eyes, you can see the same cluster of stars and particles as seen deep in the universe.  I hope that art lovers will connect with my work and feel inspired by the positive images of humanity.  This collection is a view of the world at the highest potential.  The purpose of my artwork is to share love and light through creativity, as a way of genuinely engaging with the world as a real contributor."   -- Wade

City of Nowhere
Darren Pollard solo art exhibition
July 18 - September 5, 2014

A Detroit native currently residing in Chicago, Darren Pollard uses several acrylic mediums, found objects, magazine articles and sand to create a kaleidoscope of intertwining random themes that challenge the idea that social conformity and patterned behavior must exist for society to thrive.

If we abandon our fears, controlling values crackle; and we emerge from a pattern of unnecessary contextualization and manipulation to an open field of possibilities.

City of Nowhere is not about execution, perfection, or skills ... its an artistic display of liberation and abandonment.
